N14 Springs and Shocks Replacement

Previous Page

Step Five - Manoeuvre the shock assembly out from the wheel arch ready for disassembly.

Step Six - Secure the shock in a vice and attach spring compressors to spring to support the spring pressure.

Step Seven - Unscrew the shock centre rod nut, counter holding the shock rod using a suitable spanner. Withdraw the washer, gasket, top mounting plate, insulator, bearing, upper spring seat and upper spring seat rubber, making a careful note of the order of assembly.

Step Eight - Discard the old spring, shock and top nut and washer. Assemble using the reverse procedure. If using lowered springs, ensure that the spring is contained within the confines of the shock, that is, make sure the spring is unable to move around inside the shock seats. When reassembling, insure that the arrow on the upper spring seat is pointing towards the side of the vehicle (that is, when sitting inside, pointing directly to the right or left).

Note - Bump stops may also need replacing, depending upon their condition. If the rubber is brittle, replace them. These were fine so they were reused.
