N14 Springs and Shocks Replacement

One of the most popular and dramatic modification to both a cars handling and appearance can be achieved by fitting aftermarket springs and shock absorbers. In doing this, the car can be lowered to the desired height, and the harshness of the ride can also be adjusted. These 2 features can be adjusted easily by fitting full adjustable coil-overs, or the later can be changed by use of adjustable shocks. In this article, fixed springs and shocks are to be used.

A job like this can never be undertaken without 2 things, preparation and the correct tools. If you don't have time to prepare or don't have the right tools, DO NOT attempt to do this modification yourself. Find an area that is as flat as possible and lay out the required tools. Leave yourself plenty of time, do not rush. This is when things go wrong!

Step One - Chock the wheels other than the ones you're working on, apply the handbrake and jack up the end of the vehicle and securely support it on axle stands. Remove the wheel.

Step Two - Release the brake fluid hose from the bottom of the shock.
Step Three - Remove the two nuts from the bolts securing the bottom end of the shock and withdraw the bolts.

Step Four - Have someone support the shock assembly from in the wheel arch while unscrewing the three nuts securing the top of the shock to the suspension turret.
