N14 Brake Pads Replacement

Changing brake pads is one of the easiest changes you can make to your car only taking a half hour and only requiring a 14mm ring spanner, a small blade screwdriver and a G clamp.

Step One - Obviously the first thing you need to do is find suitable replacement brake pads. I made a few inquiries and found that Bendix 4WD pads were the way to go for a few reasons. It seems that the front brakes on an N14 at the same as the rear brakes from the similar year Patrol. The reasons I chose these pads are firstly the EBC Green Stuff were just too expensive and I couldn't justify spending close to $150 for something that was just going to wear out. Another option was Bendix Metal Kings, which I was told would cause damage to my discs. I know of people that have run these pads on standard disc and have had no problem, but I chose these pads as they are designed to continually pull up a vehicle much heavier than mine and they were around half the price of the EBCs.

Step Two - Find a suitable area, flat and clean. Apply the handbrake, chock the wheels, jack up one corner of the vehicle and remove the wheel.

Step Three - Compress the brake piston back into its housing using a G clamp. Ensure you keep an eye on the brake fluid reservoir to make sure it does not overflow. Make sure you compress the piston all the way back to allow room for the new pads.
